Transport
Transport in Pompeii was very important as it was a busy city with limited space. Walking was the most common transport but those with money could use a litter. A litter was a type of transportation which consisted of a couch to sit on for the passenger, a canopy that was supported by four poles on each corner to provide shelter and curtains were hung on the left and right side of the litter. A litter was carried by four slaves on each corner and were mostly used for long journeys. Chariots, horses, wagons and ships were also very popular. Sometimes a few of these transport methods were used for shipping or transporting goods as well. Any of these transport will take you and others around Pompeii showing you sights or taking you to or from events, depending on your budget.
